Our first big fundraising deadline is June 30th at midnight. The number we report has big implications for our campaign—more below—but first, can you chip in $5 right now to help us meet our $100,000 goal?
Why this is even a thing: In the year before the election, California law requires campaigns like ours to report how much money we've raised every 6 months.
Why it matters: Political pundits and our opponents will comb through this report to see how seriously they should take our campaign. A strong report will help us build momentum, but a poor showing might risk signalling to outside groups that they should spend to defeat us.
What makes this report unique: This is our campaign's first ever report of this cycle, so people will be paying extra close attention.
And another big thing: There's a saying: "Early money is like yeast; it helps the dough rise." A strong number now can encourage others to join in.
That's why we set a $100,000 goal: Polling shows that a plurality of voters are still undecided—and half of them are open to a Republican—so we can't take anything for granted.
Can you please make a donation of $5 before June 30th at midnight?
Thanks for reading,
Katie
