Senate Republicans just announced they want to sell our public lands.
Under their proposal, over 250 million acres of public lands across western states would be eligible for sale, and the federal government would be required to sell at least 2 million acres. Even worse, it gives the Trump administration broad discretion to choose what lands to sell—with no public input and no priority for Tribal Nations to bid, even on areas that contain sacred sites.
In California, Republicans want to authorize the sale of lands next to Yosemite, Mount Shasta, Big Sur, and Lake Tahoe.
Californians—and visitors from across the country and around the world—know that these are some of the most beautiful places on the planet. They should belong to all of us as Americans. Once they're sold off, we aren't getting them back.
It's doubly offensive that the money from these sales will go to funding tax breaks for the ultra wealthy.
We need to get loud and make clear to our representatives that public lands belong in public hands. I've always been a champion for our natural resources. We need a governor who will fight like hell for our public lands. If you're with me, will you chip in $5 to my campaign today?
Thanks,
Katie
