Jeanne, thousands of Americans marched, protested and devoted their lives to passing the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA). It is our country’s landmark Civil Rights legislation – and the Supreme Court just gutted it. Their decision will result in millions of Americans having their voices silenced. |
This comes after extremist Republicans attempted to push their voter suppression bill, the SAVE America Act, through Congress and Donald Trump signed an executive order that would severely restrict who can vote by mail. |
Donald Trump and his MAGA allies claim these changes are to combat voter fraud, but every source of reliable data we have shows they are attempting to solve a problem that doesn’t exist. |
Why? To put barriers in front of voters that they don’t want getting to the polls – who might vote them out of office. |
Who will be most affected? Rural communities. Tribal communities. Low-income communities. Black and brown communities. In short, those who have been historically disenfranchised – who the VRA was designed to protect. |
I’m not about to let that happen. I will not allow this administration to silence our voices and suppress our votes. But with voting rights under attack, we must be that much more focused on educating voters and ensuring they have all the information they need, both to register and to make it to the polls. |
That’s why I am personally asking for your grassroots support today. Please, will you chip in $5, $25 or anything at all to protect our fundamental right to vote and help Democrats defeat extremist Republicans at the ballot box this fall? |
