How do you stop an Ebola outbreak?
I’m Greg, Save the Children’s Country Director in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) — and I can tell you that our priority right now is to stop transmission of the virus, protect health workers, ensure communities have trusted information and, most importantly, keep children safe.
Our teams are racing to reach at-risk communities and deliver critical assistance to children and families. We responded to the last major Ebola outbreak in the DRC in 2018, and now we’ve launched an initial three-month response to the current outbreak. Here are a few ways we’re responding — and the supplies that our teams are using to screen, treat and educate families to prevent further spread of Ebola in the DRC:
In the months ahead, we’ll continue supporting health facilities, training health workers, providing nutrition support and sending a team of medical and crisis specialists to deliver integrated health and nutrition services.
Throughout our entire response, protecting children will be central — including , psychosocial support, protective services and support for children who’ve lost caregivers. It’s clear that rapid action and urgent funding are needed to stop this outbreak from spreading further. Rush your donation to our Ebola Crisis Relief Fund right now to help save children’s lives in the DRC.
We’ll provide more updates on the outbreak and our response in the days ahead.
Sincerely,
Greg Ramm
Country Director, Save the Children DRC
