Numbers are doubling rapidly. At least 7 children are reported to have died. Families are terrified.  If you’re looking for more information, it’s likely all you can find are clinical facts about the virus. But there are faces behind each number. So I wanted to write and explain what this really means for children like Joseph* in the DRC — and ask you to make a donation right now to support Save the Children's lifesaving response to this Ebola outbreak.   In the DRC, children like Joseph are disproportionately affected by the Ebola virus. 14-year-old Joseph regularly goes hungry since his father died. Young children can deteriorate quickly without early detection and care, especially when in a weakened state from hunger. There are over 4 million children under 5 facing acute malnutrition in the DRC. When Ebola hits a country like this, the consequences for children go far beyond the virus itself.  Surviving the virus is just the beginning. Children like Joseph are still at risk of losing their caregivers, being separated from their families and missing out on school. They also face increased risks of exploitation, child labor and early marriage.  Our teams have been in the DRC for decades — always putting children’s health and safety first. We've already released emergency funding so we can begin our immediate response.
