Hi,
In a moment, I’m going to ask you to chip in to my grassroots campaign to help me win in Ohio and bring our fight for working people to the U.S. Senate. But first, let me share a quick story. |
When I first got to the Senate, they gave me an official Senate pin. It’s the kind of thing that says, “Look at me! Look at how important I am!” I wore it for a couple of days, but it just didn’t feel right. So I replaced it with a pin depicting a canary in a birdcage.
A Lorain steelworker gave it to me decades ago at a Workers' Memorial Day rally. |
|
As the story goes, coal miners once brought canaries down into the mines with them as a warning system against poisonous gases. Back then, they didn’t have a union strong enough or a government that cared enough to protect them. They were on their own.
But together, we fought to change that.
We passed worker safety laws and overtime pay. We banned child labor. We passed clean air and safe drinking water laws. We enacted Social Security and Medicare, workers’ rights, women’s rights, and civil rights. |
Because here’s the thing: When you love this country, you fight for the people who make it work.
Right now, there’s nobody in Washington willing to fight for Ohio. My Republican opponent, Jon Husted, certainly isn’t – and hardworking Ohioans are paying the price. That’s why I decided to run for Senate, and I need your help to win. |
Will you chip in $5 or more today to help me win for Ohio and give a voice to working people in the Senate? Every dollar puts us that much closer to winning, and I’m grateful for whatever you’re able to donate today. |
We have so much left to do – so let's get to work.
In solidarity,
Sherrod |
Personal message from Sherrod: I didn’t plan on running for office again.
But when I saw how these guys in Washington are only looking out for their billionaire friends and special interests, I knew I had to get back in the fight.
This grassroots movement is about fighting back against a rigged system that benefits the wealthy and well-connected, while working people pay the price.
And we’ve got momentum: Experts increased our odds of winning and officially named Ohio as a key Senate race to watch, and two new polls show we have a slight lead over our opponent.
But I need your help: Corporate special interests have already spent millions attacking me with misleading ads. The only way we can fight back and win in Ohio is with grassroots contributions from supporters like you.
If you're with me, please chip in any amount today. If you'd like to become one of my TOP supporters and receive exclusive updates from our campaign team, text "OHIO" to 64054.
Thank you for standing with me.
