Families who fled the bombings and violence are struggling to find a safe place to go. 8-year-old Samer’s* mother described fleeing — for the second time in her life — when fighting intensified: “I have four children… I’m also eight months pregnant. The car is small, so you can’t bring everything. Just a few bedding items and clothes for the children, two or three outfits, and a few supplies.”
A young teacher, now displaced and unable to work, told us she misses “the bed, sitting there, the feeling of safety, its smell, literally everything… work has stopped, and you just sit in the room without anything to do.”
And then there are the children:
“I came here because there was a war. I brought some of my clothes and a few toys… I wanted to bring more toys but I couldn’t because I was in a hurry. It’s not good when there is war… I hope the war ends.”
— Alaa*, an 8-year-old child displaced from the southern suburbs of Beirut.
These children should be in school. Safe at home. Playing outside. Instead, they’re in a displacement shelter, uncertain of what tomorrow will bring.
But you can help them find hope, by making a gift that can have 10X the impact for children in crisis.
Save the Children has been working in Lebanon for decades. When this crisis escalated, our teams were already there, answering calls from desperate parents, reuniting families and creating safe, child-friendly spaces where an 8-year-old can play football and an 11-year-old can dream about becoming a lawyer.
I promise you, we will not stop showing up and putting children first — always and everywhere.
For over a century, Save the Children has put children first. Our decades of experience working with children and families in times of crisis and throughout childhood guide everything we do, and that commitment remains unwavering. Please make your gift — today, it can have 10X the impact for the children who need us most.
Children in crisis are counting on us. Let’s make sure they know they’re not forgotten.
With gratitude,
