Friend, as violence escalates in the Middle East, Save the Children is prioritizing children’s mental and physical well-being in Lebanon.  Our teams are quickly responding to protect children and providing child-friendly spaces where kids can participate in recreational activities and express themselves.  When an emergency strikes, children often lose their support systems. They witness the destruction of their own homes and schools. They feel the pain of losing loved ones. Their sense of safety quickly disappears. Right now, at least 100 million children are at imminent risk as explosive weapons rain down in their neighborhoods, oil prices skyrocket and essential items become out of reach.   9-year-old Hala* paints with her hands at a child-friendly space in Lebanon.  For children in Lebanon, those feelings were already common because most families hadn’t recovered from the 2023–2024 war and economic crisis. The recent escalations have only exacerbated the humanitarian crisis.  Over 831,000 people, including over 290,00 children, have been displaced in just two weeks – the equivalent of over 2,000 people every hour since the escalation.  Right now, Lebanon is one of the world’s toughest places to be a child.  Learn more about what it’s like to be a child in Lebanon today and see how Save the Children is responding.   8-year-old Tamer* paints at a Save the Children child-friendly space to address trauma after displacement. Young children today are fleeing their second or third conflict as tensions rise in the Middle East.  “When the war returned, we became very scared. We were displaced so that a missile would not fall on us,” said 8-year-old Tamer*.  No child should have to endure such danger and fear.  It’s why our teams, already located in Lebanon, quickly responded to deliver emergency relief to children and families while also setting up safe spaces for kids to play and learn.  Save the Children has 9 active responses across the region. Our teams are distributing essential items, such as blankets, mattresses, pillows, baby supplies, water and mental health support.    Young children play with friends and plastic blocks at a child-friendly space. In a safe place with our Save the Children staff, children in Lebanon are playing with toys, making art and taking part in recreational activities. Our teams are responding to urgent needs in Afghanistan, Gaza and the West Bank, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Pakistan, Syria, Türkiye and Yemen.
