A new poll out says the top issues on voters’ minds in this election are the cost of living and government corruption. What if I told you that those two issues go hand-in-hand? Last year, members of Congress made $635 million in stock trades. Here’s the problem: They have access to more information than you do — because of the job voters gave them. Using that insider access to line their own pockets is corruption, plain and simple. Voters aren’t blind to it. It’s one of the reasons trust in government is reaching new lows. They know that, too often, politicians like Jon Husted spend their time in Washington looking out for themselves and their wealthy, powerful friends. Voters know why, too. We see Jon Husted being boosted by $700,000 from the insurance industry, $630,000 from data centers, $50M+ from crypto billionaires. When it’s time for him to vote in the Senate, he isn’t thinking about the people of Ohio who sent him there. He’s thinking about those big checks. He knows they expect him to return the favor. Husted even has a history of letting his lobbyist friends and corporate buddies write their own legislation. Here’s the thing: If you’re running for office and you can’t pledge that you won’t trade stocks or cash in on the job that voters gave you, you have no business being in public office. Period. And let’s be clear — this isn’t just wrong. It’s screwing people over. Ohioans pay the price for this corruption. The folks in charge get richer. Meanwhile, our lives get harder. Our costs go up. Our health care is harder to afford and impossible to navigate. Our kids get sent to fight in forever wars. Greed and corruption are the status quo in Washington, and Jon Husted is cashing in on it. I’ve made a choice, too. My record is clear about where I stand. I’m running for Senate to take on the rigged system. Jon Husted is that system. I’m going to spend the next 4 days traveling across Ohio every day talking to voters about the choice in this election. Thank you for all you’ve done to help us stay in this fight — to keep this race close in the face of hundreds of millions of dollars spent against us. If you can, volunteer with us to get out the vote, have conversations with your friends, forward this note to a family member, or make a donation to keep our ads up and make sure our field operation is the strongest it can be. In solidarity, Sherrod Brown P.S. From day one, I've been clear that one of my top priorities when I get to the Senate will be banning congressional stock trading and ending the corruption in Washington. Why do we hold high school referees to a higher ethical standard than elected officials? Take a look, and then share this note if you think folks in your orbit should see it too. Before you click away! Republican spending in Ohio has reached $320 million, and Sherrod Brown is counting on your support to keep up. We can’t outspend them, but we can outwork them.
