Hey everyone. If we needed a new reason why this election will be the most consequential in our lifetimes, add this to the list: Last night at a rally in Texas, Donald Trump said: “I would pick Ted Cruz to be the next Supreme Court Justice.” Cruz has no respect for the Constitution and no business on our highest court. He calls for radical departures from procedures designed to protect us. He called for the Court to weigh in on made-up “election disputes,” and was one of a handful of Republicans to object to certifying votes in the 2020 presidential election. Trump followed up his declaration with: “And I wouldn’t have to worry about it — I wouldn’t even have to make a phone call.” Folks, the good news is it’s not entirely up to him. The Senate gets a vote, and the balance of power in that Senate will be decided by the people of Ohio in just a few days. Please forward this note to someone who should know about the stakes in this election. It’s also not too late to volunteer with our incredible organizers and volunteers across Ohio this weekend, or chip in to make sure we have the resources we need all the way through November 3. Thank you for being in this fight with me. - Sherrod Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito confirmed recently that he is considering retirement next year. That means the next Senate will almost certainly decide Justice Alito’s replacement. I cannot stress enough the gravity of this moment we’re facing. Our race to decide Ohio’s next Senator could not only determine control of the U.S. Senate, but also who fills a lifetime seat on the highest court in the land. This is a special election, which means if we can win this seat, I will take office weeks earlier than most of the next Congress. Alito stepping down could give Donald Trump the opportunity to appoint a right-wing reactionary and MAGA loyalist to a seat they’ll hold for decades to come. Ohio’s next senator could be our first line of defense against another partisan Supreme Court Justice – or rubber stamp a Trump nominee. Jon Husted has proven time and again that his vote can be bought, whether it’s a drug company or Donald Trump or the data center billionaires backing him. I sure as hell don’t trust him to vote in Ohio’s interest for the next Supreme Court justice. Early voting in Ohio has started and there are just 5 days until Election Day. We have the momentum and message on our side and just a few days left to execute on the strategy we know we’ll need to win. Now’s the time to leave it all on the field. If you’re reading this far, thank you for your commitment to staying informed in this race. And if you’re one of the thousands of folks who have directly gotten involved in our campaign – from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Every donation, yard sign, registered voter, and knocked door puts us that much closer to a win on November 3. I believe we will look back at this midterm election as a defining moment in our country’s history. I’ve seen the power that we hold when we come together and stake a claim in our future. Thank you for joining. In solidarity, Sherrod Brown Before you click away! Republican spending in Ohio has reached $320 million, and Sherrod Brown is counting on your support to keep up. We can’t outspend them, but we can outwork them.
