A lot of you know that I still drive my old minivan. As a single mom of three, my minivan has gotten me through years of grocery trips, late-night practices, road trips to state parks, and everything in between.
Now that I'm running for governor, my minivan is helping me get around to meet the working-class Californians I'm running to serve. And in these conversations, I hear the same thing over and over: families are struggling with the cost crisis, and they need a governor who actually understands what that feels like.
I'm not a self-funding billionaire or a corporate-backed candidate who needs a team of consultants to explain affordability to me. My opponents don't drive an old minivan and worry about whether a car repair would blow up their whole budget.
But I understand those worries because I've experienced them too.
