You know I love oversight.
Let me tell you why. To me, oversight is about closing the gap between what the law says on paper and the difference it makes on the ground. The policy victories are meaningless if Americans don't actually see the benefits in their day-to-day lives.
During Trump's first term, we had a rare moment of bipartisan action when we passed a new law—signed by President Trump himself—that cracked down on surprise medical bills.
This issue is personal for me, because I was the victim of a surprise bill when my appendix burst. I received care at an in-network hospital, but my surgeon was out-of-network, leaving me on the hook for thousands of dollars.
I was proud to help pass this legislation to improve our health care system.

Even when we can find common ground, we can't count on Trump to actually get the policy done. When we look at his actions, rather than his rhetoric, it's clear that he doesn't actually care about getting families the help they need. We need Congress to step up.
