According to Trump and House Republicans, time-honored, award-winning, and widely beloved programming like:
PBS NewsHour
All Things Considered
Sesame Street
Morning Edition
Frontline
Wait, Wait... Don't Tell Me!
Antiques Roadshow
Fresh Air
NOVA
Mr. Rogers
American Experience
– and countless other productions broadcast by local PBS and NPR stations nationwide now count as "radical, woke propaganda."
Maybe it's because, despite the fact that taxpayer dollars only make up a small amount of their annual budgets, they're 100% free for all Americans to enjoy.
Maybe it's because even the remotest rural communities can tune in – so that lifesaving emergency alerts can reach the folks who most urgently need to hear them.
Maybe it's because they air educational, nuanced, and thought-provoking programs for viewers of all ages and backgrounds.
Maybe it's because their independent journalism isn't afraid to fact-check Trump's lies and expose the harm of his extremist policies.
Or maybe Republicans think that cutting PBS and getting our kids hooked on brainrot TV is actually a win.
After all, if our kids watch PBS, they could learn to count!
And if our kids learn to count, how will the GOP ever convince anyone that trillions of dollars in tax giveaways for billionaires are free?
Whatever the bogus reason Republicans are cooking up for these cuts, recent data shows that Americans support their tax dollars funding NPR and PBS by a two-to-one margin, I will do everything I can to ensure they stay on the air, no matter how Trump goes after them next.
It starts by blocking House Republicans' bill once it reaches the Senate – and that could happen at any time in the next 48 hours.
Since the deck is still stacked in Trump's favor, our fundraising strength is one of our best hopes of proving to Republicans that if they keep selling us out to fuel his unpopular, out-of-touch, and anti-working family policies, they'll haveto pay a steep electoral price come next Election Day.
