Why the FEC deadline is so important

You've probably heard the words "FEC deadline" or "public filing deadline" thrown around a lot. Today, I want to take a moment to explain why this deadline is so important – and why anyone who wants to win big this November should care about it.

Every quarter (every three months), campaigns are legally required to report to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) how much they raised and how many donations they've received. The point of all of this is transparency.

The true measure of a powerhouse campaign isn't millionaires and billionaires cutting massive checks – it's thousands of ordinary people generously giving $5, $25, or $100 when they can. That's where our campaign's strength will truly show, and if you're able to make a difference today, please chip in $5 before our report is due.

In a battleground state like ours, everyone will be poring over our public report. Ohio will be home to the most competitive Senate race of the year, which means our numbers will be the most scrutinized too.

My Republican opponent, Jon Husted, and his dark money backers will see our report as soon as it drops. A weak showing will embolden them to ramp up their investments and flood Ohio with millions more dollars – because they'll see that we don't have the resources to respond.

And our supporters (like you!) will watch to see if our message of fighting for working people is resonating and if it's worth continuing to invest in this grassroots movement.
