Republicans in Washington had the opportunity to vote for national independent redistricting commissions when I was in Congress. You know how many Republicans voted for that bill? Zero.
So I thought it was pretty rich when former Speaker Kevin McCarthy went on TV last week to bash California Democrats for asking voters to join us in standing up to Donald Trump and Texas Republicans' unprecedented mid-decade redistricting.
Kevin wants California to stand by and do nothing while Texas tries to decide the midterm elections before a single vote is cast. But if Kevin and Republicans in Congress had backed that reform, we wouldn't be seeing Texas do what it's doing right now—and California wouldn't be forced to respond.
When I'm traveling the state, I hear from Californians who are glad we're fighting back. People I talk to—including some who voted for Trump—think he must follow the Constitution and obey the law.
We need leaders who are willing to stand up to Trump's attacks. As California's next governor, I'll never hesitate to call out Trump's hypocrisy, fight back against his attacks on our democracy, and protect the rights of all Californians. But I need your help to win.
Can you pitch in $5 today to help me win this race—and hold Trump accountable in 2026 and beyond?
Thank you,
Katie Porter
