I’m about to go on live with The Last Word - here’s what I’m going to sayIt’s about the people. We’re about to prove winning politics can be about listening to voters, telling the truth, and standing with working people. I’m really proud of that, and it’s thanks to you.
Hey everyone - I’m about to go on with Lawrence O’Donnell. If you’re not able to tune in live, here’s what I’m going to say: I got off the sidelines and into this race because I saw what was happening to our country. Donald Trump and Jon Husted and JD Vance made a lot of promises to Ohioans. They got to Washington and it became clear they were lying. Because if we look at what they do and not what they say, their priority wasn’t to help farmers with the rising costs of gas and diesel. Or to fix rural health care. Or bring down the cost of groceries. Their priority was to get rich and help their wealthy friends get ahead – at your expense. Vote after vote for billionaires, crypto, Big Tech, Big Pharma, Big Oil, and Wall Street. Vote after vote for tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations who are doing just fine. Vote after vote to screw over working people, to make health care harder to get and more expensive, to wage reckless trade wars that drive up prices for consumers, and send our kids to fight another forever war, with no end in sight. Ohioans of all political stripes are on our team. They see the data centers going up without their say. They were promised lower costs and a better way of life, and they were betrayed. I’m hearing from these folks at our rallies in Youngstown and Toledo and Dayton. I don’t take them for granted. I tell them exactly what we’re going to do when I get to the Senate: End the war. End the Trump tariffs. Hold insurance companies accountable. I’m going to fight to make it illegal for health insurance companies to play doctor and deny you the care you need. If they try to deny your claims, we’ll fine them. Bring down prescription drug costs. Let’s make it illegal for drug companies to charge Americans more than they do in other countries, because the same pill should have the same price no matter where you live. Folks in Toledo shouldn’t pay more for medication than folks in Toronto. Americans are getting ripped off by the drug companies because this Congress won’t hold them accountable, but I will. Make data centers pay. Jon Husted gave $2.5 billion in out-of-control tax breaks to big corporations bringing data centers to our state. They gobble up energy, devour our land, suck up our water, then they leave you with the bill. Not anymore. We’re fighting to require data centers to pay the full cost of their utilities so your bills don’t go up. Ohio deserves a leader who will fight to protect our communities instead of plotting to give sweetheart tax breaks to giant corporations. Cap utility rate increases. While utility CEOs are raking in millions of dollars a year, your rates keep going up and up and up. Now, utilities cost more than ever and for many hardworking families, it’s impossible to keep up. I’ll fight to cap how much utility companies can raise your rates, to make sure your bills are affordable and predictable. I’ll take on the utility companies because no Ohioan should have to choose between keeping the lights on and putting food on the table. Ban Congressional stock trading and lobbying. Last year, members of Congress made more than $635 million in stock trades. No wonder they’re not standing up to corporations – they’re too busy lining their own pockets. And what’s worse, I bet you’re not even surprised by that. No one – NO ONE – who serves in Congress, or their spouse, should be able to trade stocks and make a fortune on the information they’re privy to while they’re representing the people. They also shouldn’t be able to turn around when they leave office and become a lobbyist. If you can’t agree to that, you shouldn’t be in public office. Unlike my opponent, I’m not making promises I can’t keep. I will fight every day as your Senator – every second of my time in office – for working people and families. I know you care deeply about the future of our country too. You want to help shape it for the good of the many. I’m really proud we’re about to prove that winning politics and a winning campaign can be about listening to voters, telling the truth, and standing with working people. You are the reason I got back in the fight. Working families around here don’t have a voice in Washington. That’s about to change — and it will be thanks to you and 430,000 other people who made a donation to help us do this work on the ground. Thank you. If you can pitch in again, I’m going to need your support right until the end – now is a great time to do that. And if you can help us have the conversations we know we have to have before all the votes are counted tomorrow – sign up to volunteer with us. Forever grateful. In solidarity, Sherrod Brown Before you click away! Republican spending in Ohio has reached $320 million, and Sherrod Brown is counting on your support to keep up. We can’t outspend them, but we can outwork them.
