Donald Trump campaigned on grievance and revenge, so no one should be surprised that he is nominating dangerously unprepared and inexperienced candidates whose top qualification seems to be their loyalty to Trump above all else – and his selection of RFK Jr. is a stark example.
RFK Jr. is a notorious anti-vaxxer and fringe conspiracy theorist. As head of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), there's no telling how far he could set America back in terms of public health, reproductive rights, research and innovation, and so much more.
The consequences here are not theoretical or superficial – health care access, coverage, research, and public health are life or death issues for people. The last time Donald Trump was president, he sent the uninsured rate skyrocketing and quite possibly did irreparable damage to trust in public health – and he has made clear he plans to do much worse in a second term, no matter the consequences.
