Impact: I despise the word.
It's a popular word in political communications, but "impact" is what meteorites do. I always want to go beyond and explain the actual effect of something, whether that thing is legislation or your donation.
High food prices, for example, don't just impact people. They cause kids to go to school without breakfast and force families to forgo expensive produce. But those high prices also mean multinational food producers post record profits, and CEOs might get a new yacht. Everyone is impacted, but it's not the same.
When it comes to your contributions to our campaign, your donations don't just impact this race. They:
- Allow us to run ads, send texts, and make phone calls to voters.
- Enable us to reach voters at key moments in the race.
- Prove campaigns don't need corporate cash to be successful.
