A series of wildfires is tearing through Los Angeles County, destroying homes and devastating neighborhoods.
It’s a scary and stressful time for everyone affected — particularly for children who are watching this disaster unfold and, for some, seeing everything they know turn to ash.
Save the Children is rushing to help kids and families living in some of the areas hardest hit by the devastating wildfires. This response is part of our comprehensive efforts helping survivors of major disasters in the U.S. heal, rebuild and recover. Our motto — our promise — is that we stay as long as it takes.
Traumatic events like these can impact children’s lives for years to come. In the weeks and months ahead, we will be ramping up our programming to support long-term recovery efforts in the aftermath of these wildfires, including helping kids get back to learning, supporting children’s mental health and ensuring their long-term well-being.
Homes and buildings are destroyed in Pacific Palisades wildfire.
Right now, Save the Children is helping ensure essential, child-focused supplies are getting into the hands of children and families impacted by the wind-fueled fires. This includes supplies such as flashlights, water bottles, blankets, portable chargers, children’s activity kits and more.
We are assessing the extent of the destruction to local childcare and early learning centers so we can help restore these facilities as soon as it is safe to do so. We are also connecting with community organizations to assess the mental health needs of impacted children and caregivers, to begin planning long-term recovery support.
