Hey – it’s Governor Gretchen Whitmer here with an important message for you about one of the most important issues on the line this November: reproductive freedom. ENTER FOCUS GROUP This year, with Donald Trump on the ballot for President, we have a tough road ahead. He brags about overturning Roe v. Wade – while Democratic governors are fighting like hell to protect abortion in our states. Democratic governors have protected reproductive rights by signing legislation to codify abortion rights into state law, stockpiling abortion medication in the midst of Republican threats, and taking executive action to protect reproductive health and veto dangerous abortion bans. Here in Michigan, I’ve strengthened protections for women, IVF, surrogacy, and repealed Michigan’s extreme anti-abortion laws. But we wouldn’t be here worrying about IVF, worrying about the right to distribute mifepristone, worrying about the right to health care and abortion for women if it weren’t for the three justices that Donald Trump put on the Supreme Court and his extremist partners across the states. Team, I’m sick and tired of Trump Republicans consistently coming after our rights. And I know you probably are too. Here’s the thing, though: We can’t let our anger lead to apathy. If we’re going to win back our rights, we have to channel our anger into action. The future of reproductive rights depends on the work we do this year to elect pro-choice Democrats who will protect reproductive health care from Trump Republicans. But that starts with having the strategy that we need to tackle the issues that will get voters to the polls on Election Day. I’m counting on the support of this team to propel us.
