I first met Kirsten Gillibrand back in 2006, when we were freshman congresswomen — new to Washington, but more than ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work. We instantly connected over our shared values, our commitment to public service, and our fierce passion for electing more "dragon slayer" women to public office.

In Congress, we quickly became close partners, learning the ropes, building coalitions and fighting for legislation to help our districts. And outside the halls of the Capitol, we became dear friends.
