Hi, there. It’s Roy Cooper, Governor of North Carolina, and I have an important update for you on how Democratic governors like me are helping President Biden fulfill his agenda in the states. Before I go on, I want to take a moment and ask you to step up and become a DGA member. This grassroots community is a key partner for President Biden as he works to make his policies a reality in the states. But with tough races in 2023 and 2024, and a Presidential fight coming up, we need all the help we can get to protect our progress. Here are just a few examples of the work Dem Govs are doing: In Michigan, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed six commonsense gun safety laws. In Colorado, Governor Jared Polis signed a set of health care bills codifying abortion access into state law. In California, Governor Gavin Newsom made record-breaking investments in public schools. In Massachusetts, Governor Maura Healey took action to safeguard abortion access, including medication abortion. And right here in North Carolina, I signed Medicaid expansion into law – which will expand health care coverage to 600,000. While the far-right is busy stoking a culture war, Democratic governors are focused on getting the job done. But Republicans have already begun launching attacks on Democrats. They’re hoping to flip states led by strong Democratic governors like Kentucky and Louisiana and replace them with far-right Republicans. We simply cannot let that happen.
